The story behind Robens

Our passion for the outdoors is well known, and it was rooted early on by Klaus Robens when he founded Robens more than 50 years ago in Germany. Drawing on his extensive knowledge of outdoor life and the industry, he established the company together with his wife in 1973. Based in their home in Wentorf, surrounded by forest and the Bille lake, the office was located in the basement while the tents were displayed in the front garden.

By 1988, Robens had grown significantly and moved into a newly built headquarters. At the same time, the company began collaborating with the experienced industrial designer Olaf Bracht, who shared the Robens couple’s passion for the outdoors. This partnership enabled Robens to develop products perfectly designed for outdoor adventures, and the brand soon became known for high quality at reasonable prices.

In 2000, Robens was acquired by Oase Outdoors, who continued to build on the strong heritage. Olaf continued designing Robens tents until his retirement in 2020. Over the years, Robens expanded into new markets and broadened its appeal, offering everything from lightweight bivy bags and robust trekking tents to large polycotton tipis.

To mark its 50th anniversary, Robens updated its logo, and the tagline evolved from Pure outdoor passion to Outdoor passion. Packaging was also reimagined to highlight the brand’s strong Scandinavian design heritage. Despite the refreshed look and materials and details far beyond what was possible in 1973, Robens still stands on the same foundation: a commitment to inspire outdoor enthusiasts to live out their passion for adventure.
